Pete and Lucky
Howdy
folks. My name is Pete. I was adopted by my mom 4 years ago from Rocky Mountain Springer Rescue. I originally came from the Vernal Utah shelter. Before that, I was spotted by several people traveling over 20 miles before they actually picked me up and took me to the shelter. I had no tags and just a shredded collar and loads of fleas and ticks. I was in the shelter 10 days and my time was up. I was on Petfinder.com and they said I was young and very sweet with high energy. First of all, the shelter called me a Brittany and then a Springer. That is when Springer Rescue came to transport me to Colorado. When they got to the shelter, they said, "You are not a Springer Spaniel, but we will take you to Colorado and contact Brittany Rescue." My foster mom, Judy, from Springer Rescue decided to adopt me after just 2 days. I was very shy at first. I didn't seem to know what living inside a house was all about. "What is this hardwood floor? I don't think I know how to walk on such a thing." I wanted to spend all my time outside because I felt like I was trapped inside. There was an older Springer Spaniel, Latte, inside the house and she let me know the first night that no way was she going to let me on the bed where she slept with Judy. I was very good at listening to her and decided I didn't want to make waves with this old girl! I slept on the couch. It took awhile but Latte and I became friends and she did eventually let me sleep in the bed with them. My mom took me to classes to learn obedience, agility, rally and freestyle dog dancing. I am still shy but have learned so much. My favorite is going to freestyle dog dancing. I have done some demos now, and I also go to school with my mom and dance for the special education kids. My mom says they ask about me all the time! I am also working on my "Bird Dog" routine. And I have my AKC ILP/PAL as a liver and white spotted Brittany (my official name is "Pistol Pete") so I can compete in Rally someday. I have my AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate. My mom calls me Sunny Boy because I bring sunshine to her heart.
My sister Latte passed away almost two years ago of lymphoma. She was over 13
years old. My mom took her to a special hospital for treatments. Did I also say
I have a sister, Punkin the cat? I don't pay much attention to Punkin, and she
doesn't bother me.
My mom knew Latte wasvery ill and wasn't responding to the treatments.
For some reason, she looked on the Springer website in August (2 years ago)
and saw "Lucky Sullivan". "Oh well", she said. "The time is not right."
Latte died in September (2 years ago). In October, Springer Rescue called my
mom and said we need to move some dogs around and bring some dogs down from
Ouray, Colorado. Would my mom foster another dog? Well, you know what? It ended
up being "Lucky Sullivan"! Lucky moved in and was adopted by my mom. Lucky
originally came from Salt Lake City, Utah. I will let Lucky take over from
here.
Hi everyone. My name is
"Lucky Sullivan". I am a Field English Springer Spaniel and I was born to
hunt. I am doing freestyle dog dancing just like my brother Pete. Pete and
I hit it off just great. I have gone to many different classes with my mom
just like Pete. I love practicing all the dance moves. I have some moves
of my own. I know how to whisper. Pete can't do that! I am not yet 3. My
mom got me when I was a few months over 1 year old. I am very smart and
handsome if I say so myself and I have a full tail! I get along great with
Punkin the cat. She sleeps right on top of me like she did with Latte. We
get to go to the lake and I run and run and run. I am like a marathon
runner and I like to take a dip in the lake to cool down. I can swim just
great. Pete doesn't swim. He just walks around and looks for fish. He
doesn't have much confidence. But I will try anything you ask of me.
Anyway, I am a very good boy at home and I love freestyle dog dancing,
too! My mom tells us all the time what good boys we are and we practice
many dance moves together. People tell my mom, "Judy got Lucky", but both
Pete and I agree we are the luckiest boys in the whole world to have a mom
that takes us to the lake and to freestyle dog dancing on Saturdays! Did
someone just say rabbit? Gotta go! |
